Today will be the last of the “capoeira from around the world” series, at least for now. I’ll come back to this again sometime, because there are plenty of countries to cover!

For the last video, let’s watch some capoeiristas from the land of Lord of the Rings, New Zealand.

I’ve been trying to find videos that give a good mix of acrobatics and roda footage, but when I saw this one I couldn’t pass it up.  There is no roda footage, but the acrobatics are ridiculous and the song is awesome.

If anyone knows the name of this song, I’ll be forever in your debt.

Did you know that people say Noah’s Ark can be found on Mount Agri, aka Mount Ararat, in Turkey?

Well now you do, and here’s some capoeira to go with your new trivia.

Today we bring you capoeira from the land of the rising sun.

Capoeira Video: Brazil

Every day this week I’m going to post a new video in an effort to showcase capoeira around the world.

This won’t be a perfect undertaking. Take the USA for example: I can’t post 50 videos covering the 50 states. So I’m going to do my best to find videos that I think show some great capoeira in different countries, no matter what city or region they are from.

Today we’ll start with the birthplace of capoeira, Brazil.

You don’t understand how hard it was to find an actual capoeira video with great footage that was actually straight from Brazil (and not Capoeira Brazil Israel, for example). As far as I can tell, this is all from Brazil.

Update: A sharp eyed commenter pointed out that this video may not be from Brazil after all.  There are scenes where you can see the Grande Arche de la Défense which is in Paris.  If you need me, I’ll be over in a corner inserting my foot into my mouth.

In an effort to expand the community feeling here (and to put up some new content while I’m going through a very busy time) I’m opening the Capoeira Blog up to you, my dear readers.

I want you to share your stories, tips, ideas, whatever as long as it connects with capoeira.  Ideally, I’d like it to be legible and something that will add value to the Capoeira Blog.

Basically you’ll be writing a “guest post.”

You can send your articles to faisca @ gmail dot com.  I reserve the right to edit and format the submissions for grammar, spelling, clarity, etc.  But I won’t change the original meaning of the piece.  I’m an editor by trade, so I’m good at this.

I want these to be meaningful articles, and not just 100-200 word blurbs.  Put some thought into it!

Please include your name (as you would like it to be displayed) and maybe even a little sentence or two blurb about yourself (capoeira experience, group, etc).

This isn’t a paid gig or anything, so don’t get too excited.  But if any of you are aspiring writers this could be a good way to get a few more writing samples for your portfolio.  Even if you don’t want to become the next Hemmingway, I urge you to still feel free to submit your articles.

I can’t wait to see what you have to offer!
